You will never be forgotten my friend

Who was to know that when Marj Kuyt obtained her first Schipperke, Binkie (Can. Ch. Can. OTCh. Schipholm Binkie Can. T.D.) in the mid-50’s, that her passion held for the breed would be the first chapter in a long story of Canadian, American, and European history?  Even today, Roetmop Schipperkes are still found in the pedigrees of noteworthy winners.  Due to the impact that the Roetmop type had on the Schipperke breed as a whole, there are far too many dogs to mention here, even though each and every single one held a special place in Marj’s heart.

One of Marj’s more memorable Schipperke was Can. Am. Ch. BIS BISS Roetmop Lucifer Can. C.D., Am. C.D., Can. T.D. ROM.  This top winning Schip in his day came into the world in the back of a van on the way home from a Dog Show in Lethbridge, Alberta of all places!  Lucifer’s first Best In Show was won at a November Vancouver Dog Show, and due to Marj being the first person to arrive at a fatal car accident en route to the show, she didn't even have time to give him a bath!  Lucifer’s American Best In Show was won in Portland, Oregon.

Another one of Marj’s memorable Schips was Can. Ch. Roetmop Yeoman.  In July 1988, Marj and Yeoman attended a show in Hassalt, Belgium, where they received Second in Show!  In conversation with the Judge, Marj asked him how he came to his decision.  His reply was that it would hardly look right to award a Canadian Bred Schipperke Best In Show in the Country of Origin.

Marj is very dearly missed by the few she chose to remain close to her, but her legacy will go on in the breed she cherished, and devoted her life to.
